Nicola is a highly skilled lawyer with over 25 years of experience in managing insurance law matters covering complex, multi-party professional liability claims and commercial litigation in the Federal and Supreme Courts. In addition, she has significant experience in dealing with professional indemnity, catastrophic personal injury, general liability, commercial litigation and claims in the field of health law in the Supreme, District and Appeal Courts, and in the State Administrative Tribunal.

  • Advising and acting on behalf of insurers in the management and defence of claims against professionals engaged in the construction, civil, structural, chemical, metallurgical and mechanical engineering, property management, valuation, accounting, financial advisory, scientific, environmental, architecture, project management and health fields.Advising on and defending medical treatment claims against medical practitioners and public hospitals
  • Advising on and defending personal injury claims ranging from small to catastrophic injuries, general liability claims and business interruption claims
  • Acting in professional disciplinary matters in the health sphere, including assessment of and advice on evidence and the merits of complaints and breaches of professional standards, and the preparation and conduct of disciplinary proceedings in the State Administrative Tribunal
  • Advising on, defending and resolving claims arising from exposure to asbestos resulting in lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma
  • Providing timely, concise and constructive advice on claims management and the implementation of appropriate strategies to achieve the early, satisfactory and cost-effective resolution of claims
  • Making informed, objective and realistic assessments about the merits of a matter
  • Working effectively with experts in a variety of fields to obtain the required expertise and advice to address complex or technical matters impacting directly on claims
  • Engaging in alternative dispute resolution processes and actively conducting negotiations, both formally and informally, to further clients' interests in achieving early and cost-effective outcomes
  • Thoroughly preparing matters and applying a firm and persuasive negotiation style to achieve outcomes that appropriately reflect risk assessment, the merits of the matter, and the interests and commercial realities faced by clients
  • Establishing professional and courteous working relationships with all stakeholders and communicating effectively to promote positive and constructive engagement directed at resolution.
