Brooke’s experience only furthered her special interest in discrimination and human rights. She brings a strong commitment to human rights and a deep sense of purpose to her approach. Brooke has developed meaningful expertise through a combination of academic focus, practical experience, and a genuine dedication to social justice. Her work is grounded in the belief that access to legal support should never be limited by disadvantage and she continues to be motivated by the opportunity to advocate for individuals and communities whose voices are often overlooked.
During her time in a community legal centre, she also provided guidance and mentoring to PLT students, undergraduate law students, and volunteers. Brooke built a solid foundation in client focused advocacy, legal research, and community engagement. She has learnt to approach each matter with care, diligence, and a willingness to learn, ensuring that clients feel heard and supported throughout the process. Despite being early in her career, previously working in a small team has meant that her responsibilities have extended well beyond what is typically expected and allowed her to grow in her skills and knowledge. She was able to take on a diverse caseload, contribute to strategic decision making, and stepped into roles that required initiative, independence, and sound judgment.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Examples of matters Brooke has acted and advised in include:
- Advocating and advising a vulnerable student who had been excluded from a school as a result of their disabilities and the school’s failure to implement reasonable adjustments. Brooke was the main point of engagement for both the client and the school’s governing body
- Assisting on a matter where three employees had been dismissed on account of disclosing their disabilities to an employer. Brooke was able to streamline communication, analysis, and research
- Playing a pivotal in settling numerous NDIS external appeal matters at the Administrative Reviews Tribunal. Through these matters and with her expertise she was able to educate participants on both internal and external processes, as well as the rules surrounding the NDIS.
