Eben is a public law specialist who acts for both government and privacy clients. He specialises in public law, with a strong focus on privacy, secrecy, statutory interpretation, and administrative law.

Eben is a skilled privacy lawyer and offers clear assurance and guidance to government entities. He regularly advises clients on how they can ensure their compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 and secrecy provisions contained within their relevant policy legislation. His expertise extends to reviewing the information usage practices of government departments, where he has assessed the legality of data handling and provided actionable recommendations to enhance compliance, including where a data breach has occurred.

Eben has played a pivotal role in evaluating the legality of proposed government programs, offering strategic insights to align initiatives with statutory requirements of relevant legislation such as the Social Security Act 1991 and the Social Security (Administration) Act 1999.

In additional to his experience with privacy and administrative law, Eben has acted as Legislative Officer, assisting the creation of new legislation by guiding policy into law. In his role as law lead, Eben was responsible for ensuring the passage of the Treasury Laws Amendment (More Competition, Better Prices) Bill 2022.

Eben has completed secondments to several Australian Government Departments. Consequently, he has a profound understanding of the sensitivities impacting his clients, their internal contexts and the need to provide pragmatic and timely advice specific to the needs of the client.
