Alwyn is seen as a statesman in the insurance law sector, having specialised in motor vehicle compensation for more than three decades. His clients appreciate the extensive skills and experience he brings to handling their claims.

EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Alwyn brings significant experience in compulsory third party (CTP) claims, including major and catastrophic claims and recovery matters. He represents clients in the NSW Court of Appeal, and advocates under NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Disputes Resolution Service (DRS) and Claims Assessment and Resolution Service (CARS).

Alwyn is highly motivated to aim to settle matters as early as possible and has an enviable track record. He has extensive experience dealing with direct and difficult claimants, and those whom have lost their mental capacity.

Immersed in different facets of the legal sector for many years, Alwyn has worked in-house at a major insurer and also in private practice.

During his time as in-house counsel, Alwyn handled litigated serious claims with injuries ranging from brain damage, amputation, paraplegia, quadriplegia, severe orthopaedic injuries, disfigurement and blindness. His work involved assessment of quantum and liability, provision of rehabilitation, medical needs and care, and the preparation of matters for informal settlement or court hearing.

Alwyn offers the benefit of in-house insurance industry experience as well as a private practice lawyer to his clients’ claims portfolios. He has vast experience of complex claims and best practice approaches for resolution.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Alwyn maintains a strong reputation as a fair and competent litigator who is always prepared to attempt to resolve difficult matters.

In the 2019-20 financial year, Alwyn settled 114 matters bringing a strong focus on value, duration and costs boundaries. Of those matters, just 3.5% exceeded anticipated cost boundaries (and thus required hourly rates to be applied).
