Damien is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer with significant leadership experience in large, complex and high-profile civil claims litigation, particularly within the Commonwealth legal environment. He has been involved in significant liability claims, class actions, and large cohorts of common law claims across federal and state and territory jurisdictions.

EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Damien’s experience includes:

  • Comcover / Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries: acting for the Commonwealth in class action proceedings relating to the 2016 outbreak of white spot disease in prawns in southeast Queensland.
  • National Indigenous Australians Agency: acting for the Commonwealth in the Northern Territory stolen generations class action, the indigenous stolen wages class action, class action proceedings relating to institutional abuse claims, and other litigated and non-litigated historical damages claims.
  • Comcover / Department of Home Affairs: acting for the Commonwealth in respect of claims involving onshore immigration detention, and in respect of claims arising out of the riots that occurred at the Manus Island Regional Processing Centre in 2014.
  • Department of Defence: acting for the Commonwealth in response to historical damages claims.
  • Comcare: acting for the Commonwealth in response to asbestos-related injury claims.
  • Comcover: acting for the Commonwealth in response to negligent misstatement claims involving Commonwealth superannuation.
