Meet Daphne, Partner in our Australian Government Team. Daphne has over 10 years of experience advising and representing Commonwealth Government clients across a broad range of administrative law and regulatory matters.
Why did you become a lawyer?
I was drawn to the legal profession because I liked the combination of intellectual challenge and practical impact on the community. I was studying to be an accountant and the units on law were more interesting to me. As my career developed, I found that I particularly enjoyed litigation and government work – the variety and ever-changing nature of the space is unprecedented. It is rarely only about identifying the legal answer and often there is a broader context to work out what really matters to our Commonwealth clients.
Why Moray & Agnew?
I joined Moray & Agnew because it is a firm where I could continue doing challenging work while being part of a genuinely collaborative and growing practice. I was attracted to the strength of the firm’s government practice, its national reach and, importantly, the opportunity to contribute to building something.
I also saw an opportunity to bring my experience to a growing Perth team – not just through the work I do for government clients, but by developing people, strengthening our technical capability and helping shape the practice for the future.
What do you enjoy outside work?
Outside of work, my family is my priority – I have two sons aged 13 and 6. I enjoy travelling with the family and discovering new places, particularly when we can balance culture, good food and time together. I also enjoy the planning part of the holiday, from working out the right neighbourhood to seeing how much I can fit into a day, whilst maintaining everyone’s sanity. Highly recommend Vietnam. Sri Lanka is next on the list.
I am a foodie and wine lover at my core, and a weekend dinner with friends and family is always a priority. My top recommendation if you are from or in Perth is Gibney at Cottesloe.
I enjoy keeping active with pilates, a walk in the sunshine and now that we are heading into summer, beach days are a must. The goal this summer is to snorkel around the Omeo shipwreck.
I also enjoying painting (watercolours and acrylic) and sketching. Having interests and hobbies outside of work is important to me and I value things that give me perspective and energy.
