Our commitment to sustainability
We have adopted a target to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions intensity (tCO₂e) per Full Time Equivalent (FTE) by 50% by FY2030, using FY2022 as our baseline. This target reflects our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our operations while supporting our clients’ climate and sustainability objectives.
As a member of the Australian Legal Sector Alliance (AusLSA), we align our approach with recognised national and international frameworks, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Our approach
To reduce our environmental footprint, we take a considered approach to sustainability, focusing on responsible resource use, reduced waste and emissions, and integrating sustainable practices into our operations, decision‑making and workplace culture.
Our Environmental Policy and Management Plan along with our Waste Elimination and Carbon Neutrality Plan help minimise any negative effects our operations and processes might otherwise have on our environment.
We take a considered approach to procurement, incorporating environmental, social and economic sustainability into purchasing decisions across the firm. We prioritise efficiency, responsible sourcing and suppliers who align with our sustainability and ethical standards.
To ensure accountability, and to assist in identifying other initiatives to further reduce our environmental footprint, we conduct an annual audit of the firm’s compliance with our sustainability plans and policies and report to the Australian Legal Sector Alliance.
Our social procurement looks to supports environmental sustainability through collaborating with professionals and organisations that share our values. Wherever possible, preference is given to using suppliers that demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility and broader social sustainability.
We are proactive in minimising the firm’s use of consumables such as paper, glass, coffee pods, aluminium, UHT and plastics. Where this is not possible, we recycle by-products as a simple but effective means of maximising sustainability outcomes.
Everyone has a part to play in promoting sustainability. Involving staff members in discussions about sustainability issues and initiatives has been key to the firm’s success in raising awareness and encouraging buy-in. We are always open to suggestions as to more sustainable ways to do business.
