Rory is a Special Counsel in our Liability Team with expertise in managing public liability and property damage matters (defence and recoveries) and providing coverage advice.
Rory is also experienced in conducting complex multi-party litigation involving catastrophic injuries or substantial property losses.
Rory has undertaken two periods of secondment with a major general insurer, during which he gained experience across two lines of business. As a result, he has a sound, ‘hands on’ understanding of the key commercial issues which impact an insurer’s business, including the factors affecting claims handling.
Experience & expertise
Rory’s experience includes:
- Defence and resolution of personal injury claims including construction injuries, claims against occupiers and manufacturers
- Defence and resolution of property damage claims
- Litigating subrogated property recoveries
- Advising clients on policy coverage, policy construction and interpretation and indemnity issues
- Advising clients on matters involving allegations of fraud
- Advising and assisting with claims referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service and subsequently, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.
Rory has an innate curiosity that thrives in the insurance space given the diverse range of insured clients and factual issues that arise in insurance claims.
