Laura is a Senior Associate in our Professional Indemnity Team.
Laura is an experienced solicitor who specialises in professional indemnity. She advises and represents insurers and a broad range of professionals (including but not limited to: solicitors, accountants and building surveyors) and has extensive commercial dispute resolution and litigation experience.
Experience & expertise
Laura is an Australian and UK qualified solicitor with extensive experience in commercial dispute resolution and litigation. In Australia, Laura’s primary focus is professional indemnity and commercial litigation (including insolvency litigation).
Laura started her career in London acting for banks and financial institutions pursuing professional negligence claims against solicitors, valuers and brokers. She subsequently pursued claims against tax advisors/accountants and other professionals and has also defended professionals.
Whilst working in London, including at two international law firms, she practiced in commercial litigation, including banking and finance claims, shareholder disputes, breach of warranty claims, breach of confidence, debt recovery, breach of contract claims and various technology related claims. Laura has acted on appeals and two high profile interventions before the UK Court of Appeal and UK Supreme Court. In addition, Laura has experience of acting in arbitrations and mediations.
Work highlights
Laura’s major matters include:
- Acting for a large national accountancy firm in defending a substantial claim for breach of duty, breach of fiduciary duties and knowing assistance.
- Successfully resolving a third-party claim against a building surveyor as alleged by a builder (who was being sued by a property owner)
- Managing a high value international professional negligence dispute against a valuer in the UK Commercial Court involving a complex CMBS securitisation
- Pursuing and defending claims against solicitors involving complex disputes and wide-ranging areas of law
- Successfully acting for a medical technology business in defending an indemnity, negligence and restitution claim in excess of $1 million
- Acting for a “Big 4” liquidator in a mothership proceeding for substantial unfair preference claims against multiple defendants
- Representing a consumer body in two interventions in a high-profile case before the UK Court of Appeal and UK Supreme Court in relation to APP frauds and the Quincecare duty
- Successfully defending a medical technology manufacturer in an LCIA international arbitration for breach of implied contractual terms (S14 of the Sales of Goods Act) in a claim in excess of USD 1.4 million
- Acting for a high net worth individual in pursuing a professional negligence claim against an accountant/tax advisor.
