Why did you become a lawyer? When I finished my law degree in Belfast, I swore I’d never read another legal text again! I worked in newspapers for over a decade. A regional newspaper called the Kerryman (in South West Ireland) gave me my first job after I got into a ‘heated debate’ with the Editor at a talk he was giving in Galway. After my time at the Kerryman, I worked at national papers in Dublin and Belfast covering crime, the peace process and anything else that looked like a good story. When I came to Australia, I worked for the Couriermail and the Sunday Mail in Brisbane and this experience finally knocked the journalism out of me. Looking back the timing was right! Then I worked in politics for a while and was the Head of the Government Media Unit in Anna Bligh’s Government. By this time, I was a father (and became a father of two during Anna’s last campaign) so I began thinking it was time for a change. That’s why I became a lawyer. Why Moray & Agnew? Great national firm with a good work culture and excellent Partners. What’s not to like? What do you enjoy outside work? My family and my pets, neither of whom require me to do any legal work. Also DIY. I love DIY but I make an absolute mess every time. Then I have to fix the mess so, for me, DIY is the gift that keeps on giving. Three words that sum you up As the late great Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "Be silly. Be honest. Be kind."
