Stephen has over 10 years of experience in advising on all aspects of the employment relationship.
Stephen is skilled in providing practical and commercially focussed advice and advocacy across the spectrum of employment law, including unfair dismissals, adverse action claims, discrimination claims, underpayment claims, industrial disputes, work health and safety and industrial instruments. His work on such matters has involved representation of clients in the Federal Court, Federal Circuit Court, NSW Court of Criminal Appeal, Supreme Court, Fair Work Commission, Industrial Relations Commission of NSW as well as the Anti-Discrimination Board of New South Wales and the Australian Human Rights Commission.
In addition to all of this, Stephen has also worked as senior advisor within the NSW Government advising on industrial relations and work health and safety at a time of wide reforms in those areas. He has also had secondments including with the Fair Work Ombudsman where he was responsible for litigation in relation to underpayment claims and adverse action.
Stephen is always focussed on the best outcome for his clients and is frank and fearless in giving advice. Stephen is a strong and articulate advocate in contested matters.
Stephen is very often called upon to speak at employment law conferences and frequently publishes articles on updates to the law.
He has a strong interest in preventative training, has conducted training programs on performance management and work health and safety, and was the Executive Producer of an award winning interactive e-learning work health and safety training tool.
During his time as a senior advisor in the NSW government, he played an integral role in the passage of various amendments to the Industrial Relations Act 1996 (NSW) and the adoption of the model work health and safety legislation in New South Wales.
