Patrick has extensive experience in commercial litigation advising government and corporate clients in the resolution of commercial disputes. He primarily advises and appears for clients in matters in the Supreme Court of NSW, Court of Appeal, Federal Court and High Court of Australia.

EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Patrick specialises in commercial litigation and insolvency law. He has worked in private practice and specialist in-house roles in Sydney, London and Newcastle, and offers substantial expertise in advising corporate and government clients on all aspects of commercial disputes, including personal and corporate insolvency matters.

Patrick has advised and represented clients in a number of key industries including property, construction, mining and engineering, transport, health, manufacturing and utilities.

He is admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia.

As a vastly experienced litigator, Patrick’s skills combine legal excellence with a view to achieving practical, strategic and commercial results.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Patrick successfully acted for a subcontractor in proceedings before the full court of the High Court of Australia and full court of the NSW Court of Appeal dealing with the proper approach of the Supreme Court of NSW to review determinations for non-jurisdictional error of law under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999 (NSW). Probuild Constructions (Aust) Pty Ltd v Shade Systems Pty Ltd (2018) 264 CLR 1 was a unanimous result and is arguably the seminal case in this area.
