Emmelene is a senior litigator with broad-ranging insurance and commercial defendant litigation experience, with specific expertise in all aspects of health law. 

EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Since admission in 2007, Emmelene has developed extensive litigation experience acting on behalf of many different categories of medical and allied health professionals in disciplinary and civil matters, complex regulatory investigations, coronial inquiries and employment disputes.

Emmelene is regarded as a trusted advisor by her clients, providing both strategic and commercial advice and assistance on all aspects of litigation, including the management of high profile, high value and commercially sensitive litigation, including Royal Commissions.  

Emmelene’s keen eye for detail and thorough understanding of the facts and issues in dispute, allows her to achieve exceptional results for her clients, whilst maintaining a personal approach.

Emmelene has a unique understanding of her client’s needs having completed secondments to Australia’s largest medical defence organisation as a Senior Claims Manager. 

ACCOMPLISHMENTS 

  • Successfully defended a group of medical professionals in a high profile, multidisciplinary investigation by several government authorities, obtaining expert evidence in a timely manner, critical to the outcome
  • Successfully defended an insurer and multiple professionals in a Coronial inquest involving a quadruple road fatality attracting widespread media interest. Thorough case review highlighted the need for expert pharmacological evidence, which was obtained quickly and proved critical to the outcome
  • Successfully defended an insurer and multiple professionals in a Coronial inquest arising out of a high profile aviation incident involving multiple stakeholders by utilising case review and expert evidence obtained by another party to serve the interests of the clients
  • Provided strategic legal advice and drafted hearing documents and witness statements for the Queensland Health Payroll Commission. Managed a small team to review copious amounts of evidence and draft documents and statements to meet tight timeframes imposed by the Commission.
