Ashley’s practice is in construction and commercial law, with a focus on construction contracts, Security of Payment legislation and dispute resolution.


Ashley has significant experience in drafting and advising on various types of commercial and construction contracts, including professional service and standard form construction contracts. He returned to Moray & Agnew in August 2021 after four years as in-house legal counsel at an international supply chain logistics and transportation company.

Deeply committed to achieving commercial results for his clients, Ashley advises on tendering, contracts, claims management, Security of Payment matters, expert determination and arbitration.

In addition to his building and construction experience, Ashley has significant commercial experience gained from his time as in-house counsel, including:

  • Multi-disciplinary projects including property, construction and operating agreements (e.g the GeelongPort and Boral Cement partnership at the Port of Geelong, and Tainui Group Holdings and LINX Cargo Care Group partnership at Ruakura, New Zealand).
  • Corporate procurement (e.g long-term bulk fuel supply contracts in Australia and New Zealand, national waste management services contracts, and electricity supply agreements for large and small sites around Australia).
  • Customer agreements in the port management, stevedoring, rail and logistics markets.
  • Operating agreements in port environments (including stevedoring licences and equipment hire agreements in operating ports around Australia).

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ashley gained significant design and contract administration experience working as an engineer and project manager with international engineering consultancy Parsons Brinckerhoff.


Ashley is actively involved in the firm’s ongoing pro-bono commitment, providing services to the Hunter Community Legal Centre.
